An acquaintance of mine on facebook posted a status asking for help in finding someone to do a portrait of her beloved dog, Bennu. They unfortunately had to say goodbye to Bennu and she was wanting a painting of him to remember him and also honor him. Having just said goodbye to Jimmy and Pigsey (Cats) I understood the pain of losing pets. They are not only pets, they are family and it causes the same pain as losing a human loved one. I decided to take on the commissioned painting and do it for free. She was overjoyed!
The above images are a couple from the many references I received. Below are images of the painting I did for her.
I loved doing this painting because it really pushed my skills to the limit. I wanted to capture Bennu. I wanted it to be my new best, and luckily I feel I did just that. The customer loved it, and said I had nailed him. I wish this painting wasn't for sad reasons, it's hard to be proud of it when I know it wasn't a happy ending.
However, I am happy that I was able to give her something and provide a little happiness.
Below is the progression video of the painting. I did not go live during this painting because I had to stop a lot.
If you are interested in your own acrylic painting of a beloved pet, favorite animal, seascape, landscape, etc...I am currently accepting orders for commissioned paintings. Contact me for information.

I know this isn't art related but Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Especially since I have kids, I can dress up and people won't look at me funny. My husband, kids and I have a tradition of doing themed costumes. We had a few years where we had to do the same theme because my hubby would get very sick on halloween. We're talking, running extremely high fevers, can't even walk sick.
Here's the past halloween costumes: Click on an image to enlarge.
You'll notice a few years are missing and it was because our themed costumes weren't complete without daddy. You'll also notice that we are nerds....we like star-wars and super heroes.
This year was a lot of fun, even our dog joined in on the costume fun. I was Wonder Woman, Hubby was Batman, Connor was Flash, Olivia was Super Girl and Princess Daphne was Robin!
It was a great night of trick or treating and family fun. Our son is already planning next years halloween theme...pirates! ARGH!
What did you do for halloween? Do you have a special tradition that you do with your family? Or even just with yourself?
Let me know in the comments. I'd love to hear your story!
