Happy New Year!
For my first painting in the year 2018, I decided to do a wolf painting but with a different take. Instead of really detailing it, I made it simple. Easy on the colors. Its a soft foreground and strong back ground.
When I first started it, I was going to do a light background, but decided a night sky and moon would be a better fit.
I colored over the light back ground with a blue/black. I did it in two laters.
I did a basic outline of the wolf so I knew where I was going to put it after I finished the moon.
The moon, I built up with white and payne's grey. I wanted to make it really pop and look like it had craters.
I feel the moon came out amazing. It really stands out,
Once the moon was complete, I moved on to adding stars. I used a technique that my hubby suggested I try. Putting paint on a toothbrush and flicking the bristles on the tooth brush on to the canvas, It came out perfect!
Next was adding the blocks of colors for the wolf. And then building up that color.
I originally had an eye, but it was recommended I leave it off so it had a different take on the wolf. Let me know if you agree on this move.
I am satisfied with the outcome of the painting and it is definitely a great way to stay the new year!
