I asked my followers on my Facebook page for some ideas for a painting. The one I picked would get a free painting. I got so many good ones:
- Military Style
- Beach Themed
- A wolf, a Bear and a Sea Turtle
- Mountains, Streams, Forests
- Epcot Ball (Disney)
- Birch Trees
I loved all of the ideas, but the penguin one stood out to me. They are beautiful creatures and are family oriented. I found the best reference image I could on google and I painted it.
I was out of 8x10 and 9x12 stretched canvases, so I used a 9x12 canvas panel for this painting. I really do not like to use panels. Theres nothing "wrong" with them, but my preference is for the stretched canvas. But oh well! I still really liked this painting.
So I got the background color on there which was just a grayish light blue. After I got the background layers done. I decided to draw on the canvas panel so it was easier to see the penguins. This actually helped me out a lot!
I started painting the penguins and slowly built them up. I had a lot of fun on this part. I would add the color and then paint over it again with a different shade, I feel this really added to the final version.
My Favorite part of this painting is the baby penguin. I feel it came out perfect!
Thanks to my husband, I changed the background for this painting. He suggested adding more blue to help the penguins really pop. Not just a solid color. I feel he was right!
Once completed, I signed my name and year. I put this painting in a frame.
