On my facebook page Renae Shore I posted a poll with 2 options: a galaxy and a Raven with a Moon. Which ever option won, would be my next painting. The Raven and Moon won the poll. So here is the progression for the Raven and Moon painting. I will be asking my followers to name it. When I get a few different names, I'll create another poll to see what name wins. Till then, we will call it Raven and Moon.
I did this painting on a 8x10 stretched canvas that was already black.
I did another layer for the background to give it that added depth. I did a mix of mars black and cerulean blue. You don't really see the blue, which is good. It gives off the impression its not fully black.
Once the background was fully dry, I sprayed on the stars. I didn't need to wait long for these to dry, and its best to not wait because you can paint over the spots that you won't be able to see the stars.
I then added the moon, the raven and an outline of the branch that the raven will be sitting on.
By adding the basic shapes, I am able to see where everything will be.
I built up the moon first.
Once the moon was done, I added the glow around it and then added some texture to the branch and added another layer to the raven.
I really built up the branch, giving it the shadow effect and making it look more 2D than flat. I added some outlining to the raven, mainly to help me see it better.
I felt having the raven be more "fuzzy" would help it stand out better, so I added the fuzzy look and darkened the beak a little more. I then added the eye and gave more depth to the branch.
Once the painting was dry enough, I put the wall hook on the back and have it safely on my wall. This painting will be going up on my Etsy store, so if you are interested in purchasing it, please check out the shop by clicking here!
