I decided to go in a different direction with my newest addition. I wanted to do a silhouette style painting. I decided to use mountains as well as birds flying but not adding any really details. Just their silhouette with a dawn styled sky. I saw some similar images like this style that I loved and wanted to give my hand a try. I didn't use any reference image when doing this, just what I saw in my head. I feel it came out nicely.
My chosen brand of acrylic paint is Liquitex Basics. The whole painting only uses four colors:
I started with the background first, which I built up with three layers. This part was a lot of fun because the colors are so powerful and beautiful. It mixes well and blends nicely.
After I let the painting dry, I decided to add in the mountains.
I built up the black mountains like I did the sky. I wanted to ensure I hid the background behind the mountains. I started with more of rounded mountain tops, but I liked the sharper look more.
After I let it dry, I decided to add in the birds. This was a little harder. I didn't want to have detail, it is meant as a silhouette. And with no reference image on bird silhouettes, I was merely guessing on how it should look. I feel I did fairly well for my first time and only using my head.
I touched up the edges around the mountains and added a tiny bit of detail to the rising sun,
All thats left is to sign my painting.
Please let me know what you think of the newest addition. You will also be able to see it in the Seascape / Landscape area and in my etsy store!
