This is my last painting for the year 2017! I decided to do a sandy beach but instead of having a skyline, I did just sand and water. I started painting in my dining room, but the hubby started playing a game of Battletech with a family friend, so I end up moving to the living room.
I did the first layer of paint for the sky and sand.
After two more layers, I started to develop the wave over the sand.
I added a small shadow to the wave, which will get painted over and redone to build up the dark color.
While painting, one of our cats decided he needed attention. He (Leonard), got on my lap and was meowing. Don't worry, I gave him some rubs and he moved off....but he moved on just so he could attack the string from my apron...
After some kitty playtime, I went back to adding small details to the painting, trying to add all of the beautiful colors you would see in water that is moving over sand.
I then started to work on the waves, which you will see the progression of it.
I went back to adding details to the water, trying to develop those details.
I wanted to make the water some what 3D so it would stand out and look like it was rolling over the sand. So I made the water very thick and tried to add a shadow. You will see that develop.
I was really happy with the details and thickness of the wave. I feel like I captured the image that was in my head.
This painting was small, easy and a great way to end 2017! It is wall ready and will be available in my etsy store!
Thank you for checking out my New Years Eve painting. Stay safe my friends!
